November in Texas

Last week we were all sick with head cold stuff. We all finally started feeling better by the weekend, so on Sunday we headed about an hour and a half north to Palo Duro Canyon (the 2nd largest canyon in US) and went hiking. It was nice to get out of the house and the weather was perfect! Actually, on the way there we got a little turned around - lost, as the kids prefer to call it - and they were starving, so we pulled over and ate our picnic lunch on the side of the road and let the kids stretch their legs a little. As you can see, most of Texas, is big and flat with not much around.

As we drove into the entrance, we were greeted by "real" Texas Longhorns. (Sam's favorite!)

This is a picture Layne took of a tiny cactus in the shape of a heart.

Layne's new thing is sleeping totally covered up from head to toe. Last week, when I went in to check on her while she was taking her nap, this is what I found, when I pulled the covers back a little.

FYI, Sam was elected/nominated in his class for student council. His first meeting is Thursday. He is so excited! I guess on Friday he will have to report back to his class about what took place at the meeting. Josie's class had to give speeches before they elected who would be in student council. She told me she really want to be in Student council, but she just couldn't give a speech in front of everyone in her class. She then went on to tell me that Jayden (the boy that likes her) gave a speech. He stood in front of the class, said, "I ROCK", then proceed to throw himself on the floor and play air guitar. (Sam said, "I would vote for him!") Josie however, voted for the girl that gave the best speech.

Happy Veterans Day!!! Thank you to all that have served to protect our freedom!
